Es viernes y como siempre YT nos sorprende. Hoy, y para aquellos que dicen que en latinoamérica no hay de estas cosas, encontramos a la Orquesta Sinfónica de Chile interpretando Superman. Un par de desprolijidades pero en general muy bien. El director un maestro!

Generally comebacks or sequels turn to be cinematography bluffs; either for its incoherence resembles or an overt estimated director who wasn’t able to convey the essence of the original. But Superman Returns achieve what few re-filming do. Great success and good reviews for an acceptable budget. This combo of pleasing both media and general public is hard to get and even harder in terms if we consider music performing.

John Ottman – B. Synger long-time composer – really cracked it up. When we think of Superman, most of us just imagine a muscular-handsome guy flying high in the air with the typical heroic theme in the background. Superman, the movie, is one of the few examples where the music achieved world-wide recognition after years and years or premiering even beyond the movie itself. In the original version, John Williams once more composed an impeccable theme that we all remember and avow. However, John Ottman – like few – has succeeded in composing an incredible resembling music, highlighting the best parts and redoing some of the downsides as well.

We heard from Ottman himself, that his main goal was to try and keep the “Williams” grandiosity but adding his own touch of heroic notes. And Boy he did! This over-70-minutes soundtrack has lots of high points, turn points and very few low points. To start with The “Main Titles” is just speechless. No scherzo ever sound that good in the last years. Some roaring and accentuated strings decorated a marvellous landscape of musical scoring fully completed with an unexpected but magnificent coda that kept us on the edge of the sit for over 3 minutes. Furthermore, “Memories” is another track that has an incredible touch of sensibility mixed with breathtaking chords that resembles to the original composition of Williams.

My overall impression is that this soundtrack is full of pompous and impressive moments that kept us wondering for more. Certainly, this OST has successfully stood up for the challenge leaving no space for doubts that Synger hired the fittest movie composer for the project.
